If you mistakenly are here because you thought it said the Art of Seduction well I can't say wether or not I could personally help you there but Google is a most wonderous and useful tool ;) or you could just be yourself that in itself is the most pleasurable form of Seduction!!

However if your here because you wonder What in the world is she talking about? What is so seducing about art? Then my friend let's go on a magical journey .. One that resides in the depths of an artists soul, one that resonates in their work, one that reflects the passions of life, love, and the arts, and how it pulls you in!!!

Have you ever sat and watched Dancing With the stars? That moment of intensity between the dancers as their bodies sway to the music, every movement an art form of their bodies, the deep connection as they move as one, that magic moment when you feel that connection within yourself, when it makes you feel? Hits on a deep rooted part of yourself, and for those few minutes in that moment takes you on a journey?

Or maybe you find yourself completely taken with a painting, or perhaps a picture.. That moment when you realize your heart echos the exact feeling as the original artist? A painting that hits you with such profound emotion that it's as if you have become one with the artist, that maybe you have traveled to another time and place!!

Let's say your at a Festival and you find yourself walking down the isle, checking out the amazing works, and then out of no where your eye catches on something, and your palms begin to sweat, your heart rate accelerates, your emotions twist, butterflies begin to beat rapidly in your belly, and you didn't realize you were holding your breathe until the very moment you are standing in front of that piece and finally release it, and are able to breathe again!!

Perusing the yard sales, thrift stores , estate sales, and you pick up a piece of pottery, and for some unknown reason that you can't figure out that one piece discarded and left to anyone means more to you than you realize and you simply must have it, you get home and really look at it, maybe you notice finger prints, and begin to imagine the artists hands spinning the pottery wheel, the glaze pulls you in and makes you reflect on life, on your emotions, maybe every time you look at it, touch it you can feel the energy and warmth still within...

Perhaps it's a beautiful warm sunny morning, and you head to your local coffee shop, you know the one where the coffee is a special blend of magic, poured into a cup, you then decide to take it outside and allow the sun to warm your face as you close your eyes and savor the exstacy the moment that first sip touches your lips and you can't withhold that "ahhhhhhh" afterwards.. your left wondering how someone could have blended such incredible perfection...

The wedding you attended last weekend, such a romantic affair to watch the people you care about promise to love another for life. That moment you share in that joyous occasion leaves you in baffled wonderment. And yet a week later you can't forget the taste of the cake that you shared in, the flavors bursting on your tongue like a wave rolling in from the shore, the way it was so beautifully created, with it's handmade edible rosettes, it's beaded candy that looked like real gold, the fondant perfectly wrapped around that mixture of heaven, and you wonder how the baker could have been born with such a skill...

Could it be that moment you were scrolling thru Facebook and stopped on a photograph of the most amazing piece of handmade jewelry you have ever seen? The colors, the lines, all beautiful but it's the connection, the meaning that hits you so squarely in the chest , that tears form on the tips of your eyelashes, memories assault you, you don't know wether to feel happy or sad in that moment , you only know you feel at peace, your hands touch the screen and you find your fingers stroking lovingly over it, your pulse a maddening musical beat, your suspended in that moment...

Could it be , the music you hear amongst the wind, drawn to it so fiercely, your confused to find it's just a windchime, made of recycled utensils, a vintage plate, and old crystals , and yet you can't walk away from it, it's music grips your throat, shrouds itself in your essence, pulls at your heartstrings and leaves you completely breathless...

Such simplicity in every one of those scenarios. But Art is a Seduction, it seduces your senses, emotions, memories, it rattles the very core of your soul. It makes you feel even when it's messy, even when it's dark!! It draws you in so completely your drowning within it, your left wondering about the artist ,about the story with which they have told. Your wondering how this small wonder of life can change you,can open your mind, can allow you to see things from another perspective but it's there nonetheless...

If you have ever felt any of those things then you know exactly what I'm speaking of..

If you have never felt those things well don't worry it's coming.. open your mind, allow yourself to feel, even when it's painful, or sad. Especially so when it's happy and full of excitement. ..

This event is not as large as some bead shows but this is the LARGEST event for Innovative Beads Expo. Their regional shows are smaller more intimate events, perfect for those that get overwhelmed or have trouble with their legs etc.. Each Expo is jam-packed with amazing exhibitors that bring you top quality beading and jewelry supplies!!!

The Innovative Bead expo is open to wholesalers and retail shoppers... As always here are some helpful tips to know before heading to the Innovative Bead Expo..

1. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing!!
2. Hand sanitizer if your BFF!! You'll be touching lots n lots of beads so keep your hands clean!!
3. Bring a bottle of water and a light snack such as a protein bar, small bag of pretzels etc As long as it's light to carry..
4. Either a comfortable shoulder tote, backpack, or small roller bag for storing your goodies!!
5. Cash & Debit/Credit Cards, Photo ID, Wholesale License/Tax forms etc
6. Tylenol!! Believe it or not often times the noise from the crowd, the lighting, and the adrenaline rush you will experience can often lead to headaches (minor ones) or for general aches from your knees etc!! It happens mot of us are older ya know!!
7. Small notebook/post it notes3x5 cards etc & a writing implement!! More times than not I find some amazing gemstone that isn't tagged and I can't recall the name of months later when I'm using it in a design!! So I've been writing it down and adding it to the bag the item is in so I know what the name/price/vendor of the item is . This isn't something everyone does but if your like me you'll want to bring these items :)
8. Your amazing smile, sense of adventure, and your imagination and creativity!!
9. Last but NOT least general admission is $4.00 at the door.. Pay via their website and save some money :)

This is an event where you can let your inhibitions run wild!!! (okay we don't want to see anyone running the isles in the buff so please let's not get THAT wild!!!) Get out, meet some other amazing artists, & try something new!!!
This crazy expedition will be sort of like a "Flat Stanley" project. Except The Traveling Beadwenches mission is to travel all over the United States to different artists. While visiting, participating artists will be required to feed the Beadwench with knowledge of their particular craft, show her around their area if they can, The Beadwench as you all know is a fun, loving, adventure seeker, so the crazier the better :)

To Participate in this awesome event THE TRAVELING BEADWENCH here are just a few rules to keep in mind:

-Shipping is required to send to the next person in line.. All participants must pay 3.00 for First Class US shipping to me the Beadwenchh via Paypal or Square. Shipping fees must be paid in full 48 hours before your she is due to leave her current location. I will then send the shipping fee off to the artist who currently has her... Currently open only to residents of the USA... however if your international and want to pay the shipping fee please send me an email and we can work it out!!!

- You may only keep the Beadwench for 3 days, more if there is a special place you want her to visit before sending her off to her next destination... please email me to make arrangements for more than 3 day visit..

- You must email me either during the stay or after with your "travel journal" and lots of pictures

- The Beadwench is pretty laid back, she loves to cook and enjoys new recipes, hanging out with friends and family, meeting new people, dancing, shenanigans, and creating art... really anything

- Most importantly The Traveling Beadwench wants to introduce you the world at large, so be sure to have her help with an art project of any kind and journal log it and take pics.... Let her get to know you as an artist... ( feel free to send any trinkets or goodies back to her home location if you would like to, its not required but some people like to send mementos, so email me for my shipping address if you need it)

- Take lots of photos, we love photos :)
- Most importantly HAVE FUN!!!!!

Where has the New Year gone?

So with the New Year some changes have been made as well. As many of you may or may not be aware I am no longer an admin in any Facebook groups... okay one for the SRAJD Destash group but that's it. I took a retirement from it all, and decided it's time to pursue my dreams, reach some goals, have less stress, complications, and more time to create, learn, and grow.

I no longer post on the Maiden Designs Studio Facebook page, as Facebook likes to hide posts from anyone seeing them unless we pay for boosting which I and many others refuse to do.

My main Facebook page is where you can find me , my ramblings, designs for sale, show information when I have one going on, my LIVE broadcasts will be coming back soon, loaded with fun tutorials and some give aways...

I just submitted 5 class proposals to teach classes at BEADFEST Oaks PA 2017 and am anxiously awaiting to hear back once they have their decisions. It's so exciting, and even if I don't get accepted I'm okay with it. I didn't have much time to prepare and three of those five were last minute things so we shall see what happens, there is always next year.

Now comes some fun stuff. I have joined up for the BEAD PEEPS 3rd Annual HOP N SWAP hosted by Linda Anderson. This year has an incredible turn out. If you would like to follow this fun filled swap n hop please be sure to head over to https://www.facebook.com/groups/beadPeeps/ and join the group. Alot of amazing artists are aired together, there are some fun new twists, and surprises.
With that being said this blog post will be used for me to answer some questions so that I can be paired with another artist so here goes...

1. My favorite things to work with are wire mostly copper, metal sheet, metal blanks, artisan beads, or components, chain, anything odd. I love a challenge, I love bold color pallets, I'm a mixed media queen and love that area.

2. My least favorite things are seed beads, acrylic, plastic, glass beads and the like.

Now for my new partner here is just some info you should know about me....

Well among my busy day to day life just like many other's, I am on Facebook quite often. Being a jewelry artist and part of an amazing online comunity of other artists, as well as running a business, online shows, and general catch up with friends and family. Amongst all the updates, memes, pictures, and news... there is a new world that Facebook has given to us....

FACEBOOK LIVE..

FACEBOOK LIVE was originally intended to only be used by celebrities, popular speakers, etc. However it gained so much popularity that it opened the door for so many people.
With FB LIVE it makes it so much easier to be able to show LIVE tutorials, as well as watch other FB LIVE broadcasts... and believe me there are soooooo many....

Normally when Beadfest comes I usually just go to shop and say hello. This year I decided to take a few classes... IT WAS SO WORTH IT!!! Did you know students get their own entrance? A student Lounge area? and AWESOME stuffs!!! Well they do!! A lanyard, a pillow cushion (which I forgot), a ruler, and a awesome zipper tote full of coupons!!! This year I attended a "TAILGATE PARTY" hosted by the amazing Candie Cooper, Jesse James Beads, Dakota Stones, and Stars Clasps. Talk about coffee, connecting, donuts and deals. The deals were amazing I did great. Hung out, danced to some old school music, met some amazing online friends in person, got a goodie bag from Candie Cooper from Beadalon full of amazing jewelry components and even more coupons to use from those I mentioned above. The tailgate started art 8am and ended at 9:30am. Then we all headed into Beadfest.

My first class started at 11:30am with Candie Cooper and it was a Doodle & Paint jewelry class, we got these awesome wood pendants, some acrylic paints, and colored pencils, and went to town. I made a cutey little Angel fish. Candie is an amazing woman, so very sweet, and a great teacher, I was so glad to have finally met her in person, after months of seeing her LIVE facebook broadcasts daily @2:30pm... on her facebook page Candie Cooper. Jesse James Beads supplied the gorgeous beads we used to create our necklaces with.
After I left Andrew thinking I was slightly on the crazy side (total lack of sleep + lack of coffee+heat+loads of walking = slightly scattered Betony) I made my way to the other side of Beadfest and found this adorable little booth called Tibet Inc I believe and I could be wrong, they had all types of amazing things going on. So I snagged this amazing key and two of these decorative large beads that are going to become pumpkin necklaces :)
After Kate's class, I made my way to a new vendor at Beadfest this year TAYLORS FALLS BEAD STORE located in Taylors Falls MN. Whom I met during Candie Cooper's "back seat beader" trip. I had the pleasure of speaking to Diane from TFB, if you were on during my LIVE Beadfest tour this is where I began, They carry an amazing selection of beady scrumptiousness, including an impressive selection of rocks , recycled glass, and fossils. Cup chain, findings, and so much more. Their recycled glass is brought in from all over, tumbled, sanded, tumbled again , drilled with holes, and ready for use in jewelry design. The rock are found at Lake Superior by Jeff Plath the stores owner who then makes holes. Each item is just so amazing, so many colors, and textures. I brought home quite a haul, and I urge you to go check them out.... Let them know The Beadwench set ya!!!!
Marsha has many amazing ceramic pieces to use in jewelry design, i love her rustic donuts and the glazes she uses are just stunning. I came home with some of her vibrant and strong silk ribbons as well as her amazing ceramic ring holder. She will have more of these coming to her Etsy shop in September and believe me your going to want one or 5 of them.....
Last but most definitely not least is a package that I had been building up prior to Beadfest but was delivered at Beadfest. My amazing friend Candie Cooper often has items for use in jewelry making for sale in her Etsy Shop. Let me tell you this is not the first amazing package I have gotten from her and it won't be the last. The druzy is big honkin as she likes to say and absolutely stunning, the crystals are just freaking awesome, as is the picture jasper blab, the gemstone cut elephants, and my bracelet called over the moon that comes as a kit we put together.... STUNNING!!!! she has the most amazing items in her shop and well worth the purchase so head over and check out her Etsy shop!! (as a side note the colored pencils I purchased from Candie during my Beadfest class with her)
I am honored to be a participating jewelry designer in this program. I never know what's going to arrive, though they do allow you to tell them your favorite colors , I have requested to be surprised each time.

I love challenges!! Most of you reading this who know me would probably giggle thinking that this isn't much of a challenge for me. I started out a bead stringer and have grown into any mediums my favorite being wire and metal work. However this was actually quite a challenge for me. You see since I picked up wore a few years ago, I haven't strung beads since. I actually forgot how much I enjoy the design process and the final look of a strung bead necklace.

I wanted this necklace to be one that could be worn over head so that it didn't need a clasp. She is rather long measuring in at 36 ish inches. I'm also at an age where chain, metal, and beads aren't always comfortable on my neck. Hence the recycled Sari Silk. I love the lightness of it and how it feels when it's worn.

Jesse James Beads has an entire mermaid collection that is exclusive to their online site only, and living in Philadelphia I'm close to the Jersey Shores, but don't get there too much these days, so I was inspired to create this design with the memories of walking on the beach and collecting seashells.

Jesse James Beads are gorgeous, and elegant. They are classy and perfect for all ages and occassions. They are easily addicting to jewelry designers.

I also wanted to add a different element to this design which are the crystal beaded loops , I created three loops also using beading string (Beadalon 7 strand in Satin Copper) in various sparkly and matte colors to give it some added elegance and texture. The focal is absolutely amazing, the bead is made from crushed shells!!! I added a bronze bead cap and a length of cupchain for added mermaid sparkly awesomeness! !!

There will be earrings and a bracelet as well!!!

The strands used in this design are
Inspiration Mix in Pacifico
Pacifico strand #2

In addition I added 2 artisan made lamp work beads seen in the strand mix, and gold matte bicone beads used on one side of the sari silk.

I hope you have enjoyed this Jesse James Free Bead Program Design...
Can't wait to see what they send me next :)

Some helpful Tips!!!So your going to Beadfest? There are a few Beadfests that take part in several areas in the United States and at different times of the year for more information please visit www.beadfest.com .
Beadfest is held in Oaks, PA Summer August 17th-21st , , Tacoma ,Washington Fall October 13th-16th and Sante Fe, New Mexico Spring March 23rd-26th 2016!!!!
It's one huge motherload of a festival which I often refer to as " Adult Disneyland". If your a jewelry designer or bead addict like me you'll get that reference. I happen to live about 40 minutes from the Beadfest that takes place in Oaks Pa at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.

What IS There To DO At Beadfest?

Well my lovely , let me give you a first hand experience (please note I do not work for or am not involved in any process of Beadfest, I am just a Beadfest lover, buyer, and attendant) Beadfest offers a variety of affordable classes ranging in prices from $5 and up. There is something for everyone and at all levels of experience. Many well known artists prepare yearly for classes they host during Beadfest. It's an amazing experience, I highly recommend taking one class or 10 lol. This year I am taking two $35.00 classes because as a mom of three that's what is in my budget. I am taking a Saturday class with Candie Cooper www.candiecooper.com on how to doodle and paint on metal findings using gold leaf, and color pencils as well as sealing techniques. On Sunday I will return to take a class with Kate Richbourg www.katerichbourgjewelry.com on simple stamped rings where I will learn to anneal metal (softening it up to get a better stamp impression) using a torch, creating a cigar band style brass ring to create gorgeous stamped rings as well as a sealing technique for brass. Each class we get to finish a completed project to take home. Though I've been creating jewelry for nearly 10 years and selling for 7 years there are many techniques that I have not tried. Candie and Kate are both artists whom I admire that offer techniques and design inspiration on different mediums. I don't create using only one medium , I use them all.

Classes start on Wednesday and run until Sunday, not every class is available each day , some instructors teach over 14 classes while at Beadfest. So if there is something that interests you check it out , join a class.

In addition to some amazing classes. Beadfest is open to the public Saturday and Sunday for shopping. It's a huge building, with a ton of amazing Vendors. There is a vendors list on the Beadfest website as well as a list of classes, instructors , and a FLOOR PLAN which you may want to look at prior to going.
There is alot to see & do. It is air conditioned, there are restrooms located in several areas that are clean and tidy, there is a food court that offers a variety of foods, snacks, and beverages with fair pricing and tables to sit to eat . There is free wifi available as well. Which I love because I will be doing some on the spot LIVE facebook broadcasts (with permission of the artists that is) !! There are vending machines , and lots of Beadfest Staff and volunteers to make your Beadfest visit nice and smooth. This is an all day event , there is so much to see and do that I've often found myself in one booth for over an hour without even realizing it. So be prepared.

Helpful Tips !!!

1. Wear comfortable Shoes and clothing (it is air conditioned and your on your feet for hours)

2. Bring a water to carry with you as well as a light snack (ie: crackers, protein bar, granola bars, pretzels, anything that won't melt while in your bag)

3. Bring a bag that you are comfortable carrying on your shoulder or a backpack to carry your Beadfest purchases in. ( I believe there is a bag check that will hold items for you as well but I have never used it) Some people bring a small roller case (looks like a mini suitcase) however I do not recommend this unless your really doing some mega bulk shopping, the booth isles are small and can be crowded with people making it hard to use a roller case. I do recommend stopping over Artisan Alley and purchasing a handmade bag from Staci Louise Smith of www.stacilouiseoriginals.com her bags are hand dyed, hand stamped with her original art designs, they are the perfect size for storing your Beadfest goodies. (if you go tell her the Beadwench sent ya :)

4. Be sure to bring your Photo ID and Credit/Debit Cards (if that's your choice of payment method) , Cash, Tax ID/Wholesale paperwork if you have it. There are ATM's located in the venue. (a lot of vendors use Square and Paypal so if your unfamiliar with either of those please familiarize yourself prior to going)

5. I'd say make a list of general things your looking for, however there is so much that you end up buying more than you thought you would lol

6. Take a small notebook to make notes on Booths you may want to return to and also what your spending not every Vendor gives a receipt and you may not remember what vendor your purchased something from. I make notes all day lol

7. HAVE FUN AND TALK TO PEOPLE!!!!!

Can Beadfest Be Done On A Budget?

Something I hear and am asked quite often is "I don't have enough money to buy anything, so I can't go" and "How can I budget for Beadfest? I have no willpower"

Well then I'd say your missing out on a wonderful experience.

Beadfest absolutely can be done on a budget. I'm a mom of three, with bills, necessities, etc.
I don't save money leading up to Beadfest (normally thought this year I managed to stash away some bucks ( now if only Candie Cooper would stop listing beautiful items to use in jewelry making I'd be good to go hahahaha) But its not even alot and compared to most Beadfest shoppers I've got pocket change lol However it can most certainly be done. Every year I have a budget, one year I had $75.00 that had to include gas to get there, coffee I made at home, I packed water and snacks, as well as a cooler with my lunch in it. That costs also included my entrance to Beadfest Fee. Normal admission is $15.00 Beadfest has a $3.00 off coupon if you sign up online bringing your admission to $12.00... but...... if you hold out many vendors will post on their websites/blogs/facebook/instagram/pinterest pages with a coupon for $10.00 making your admission fee just $5.00 ...... so that saves you $10.00 right there!!!!
That left me with approx $55.00 ($10 for gas & $5 for admission)
I knew I'd have no will power lol but I made a general list of things I needed not wanted , needed in order by which I needed the most. There are many Vendors with amazing deals on items such as crystal strands, fresh water pearls, gemstones etc They can run $1.00 and up, if your going on Sunday there are alot of discounted deals going on. What I did was take my list of needed items , walked thru all of Beadfest , kept notes of which vendors had what I needed , what their prices were, then compared & went thru a second time to make my purchases.

I must say that I made out very very well, I came home with quite a haul that even my husband was impressed. I had strands of gorgeous fresh water pearls, gemstones, crystals, I had gemstone focals (like 8 different types of Jasper, Jade, Laboradite, Amazonite) , wire from Parawire 3 small spools, a rubber bench block, a new chasing hammer, my 6 in 1 looper tool, Lampwork beads, ceramic beads, and some swarovski crystals beads and focals.

Yep I got all of that for $55 !!!! Did I want everything I saw???? Well YEAH OF COURSE I did lol who wouldn't it's Beadfest. It's chock full of Yummalisciousness!!!!
I still don't eat lunch in Beadfest, I always bring lunch and go out to my car to eat ,this gives me a chance to leave what goodies I have so far if I need to and also get some fresh air for a few minutes, I check over my list think of what I have and what I would like to go with it etc.

I highly recommend going even if you have only $20 or less to go. Just the experience is amazing, the vendors are all wonderfully nice and a joy to talk to, the staff is always friendly and happy , the artists are all amazing, I have met the most amazing artists just by having a small conversation even as busy as they get, as long of a day as it is everyone is so super nice and friendly. Just getting out and socializing is worth a trip. You can always collect cards and visit many of their websites to make purchases later down the road.

As a side note if your from out of area go visit the Beadfest Facebook site many times people carpool together and share hotel rooms/expenses to keep costs down as well!!!

So I hope this was helpful!! I hope you go to Beadfest, and I hope you have as much fun as I have.

If you see me Betony aka THE BEADWENCH come and say Hello :) I'm the short, squat one with a skull and rose tattoo on the left side of my neck , as well as tattoos on both lower arms :) I can be found wondering all over, drooling hahahahahaha!!!! But seriously come say hello, I will be doing on the spot LIVE facebook broadcasts and taking selfies for my after beadfest blog !!!! Where I will share my goodies, experiences, and pictures from the weekend.

My goal is to get the largest Beadfest Selfie ever so let's see if we can make it happen!!!!!!!
It's been a wee bit since I have blogged. My son Liam who is 7 had the unfortunate event of being home from school for a week battling strep throat and an ear infection, I too am not feeling so well. However Art never ceases for me. It is a constant companion like no other that offers me a creative outlet for my thoughts and emotions. So I welcome you to yet another glimpse inside my mind.
Very recently it's been a running joke of many of you asking for only a few minutes to see inside my mind. I am not sure however if this is a good thing or not as I have many hidden very dark areas surely not even acceptable for even a rated R movie lol, though I am able to offer you some small semblance of things you may see. Take inspiration from it, may it help you to think outside the box, for being outside the box is truly where you find yourself , it's where all of the creative's play before jumping off into their own realms, faery lands, and world's where our art is formed and stories are written.
This journey in particular is a walk in a forest and metaphorically speaks of our journey in life.

Let me start by saying that I don't typically use these types of beads that are in this design. However I fell in love with them after using a set to create a mother's day gift for my mother. It was then I saw that Jesse James Beads has a Free Bead program open to jewelry artists, you apply by giving your basic information and letting them know all the social media outlets you use. You tell them a bit about yourself and your art. I waited a few days very anxiously I may say for the email stating I had been accepted into the program. I was then asked to tell them which colors I would like, to which I responded (as many of you know me knew I would) that I didn't have a preference for colors, I love to be challenged, so they should have fun surprising me. To which they did. Ahh, however they sent me a combination of my favorite colors.. gorgeous browns, creams, and golds....
I received two gorgeous strands that coordinated with one another, they were Brown Sugar #1 A and Brown Sugar #2

You can see for yourself how gorgeous they are!!

Now bare with me while I tell you a story, an incredible story about life & all its beauty, sadness, trials and tribulations.
This one of a kind design I named " Sacred Garden"
We all have a sacred garden where we store memories of our past, our deep dark ugly secrets, our happiest most uplifting moments, moments of love, loss, accomplishment, failures, where we keep our one true self, the one we rarely allow the world to have a glimpse of, where our vulnerabilities reside, where the things that haunt us, the things that broke us, the things that have made us grow, live. They play with one another among the lavender fields, and at times break away to remind us of who we are, where we have been, and where we can go.

We alone are the only ones who can unlock that garden. The garden is more of a Forest area, where we begin our walk among the path of the unknown, this is where we learn early on who we are, who our loved one are, we learn how to speak, to dress, to become a part of our society as a whole, but also learn who we are as a person in life, this path turns and twists, it has hills, and mountains so high it almost seems impossible to climb it. Oh but we do... We do this in the face of adversity, we do this when we are knocked down, when life throws us every dam thing at one time so much so that we feel as though that mountain is indeed sitting on our shoulders, and yet we persevere, we climb that dam mountain thru treacherous terrain and we indeed become the victor, knowing that it's but one mountain to overcome but also finding comfort in the fact that we did it once, we gained knowledge and strength, should we need to face these mountains a thousand times over we will know that we can and will indeed do it!! Coming off that mountain we find ourselves in a meadow, that meadow is filled with the most beautiful flowers one could ever imagine, so beautiful we find an overwhelming sense of peace, gratitude, lust, and love. We begin to feel so comfortable that nothing could ever hurt us again, until we stumble upon the most beautiful of all the flowers and we watch it wilt and wither away, and in shock we cry, we feel broken, we cry so hard that our souls lift from us for a glimpse in time and we feel totally and completely shattered, so much so that we don't for a time realize that the winds of time have held us in it's grasp, that they pulled the sun from the sky to warm us , and slowly put us back together again... we sleep then as only we can after being broken and torn and our world crashing down around us... we sleep...
Upon the next morning we awake ready for the new day, but we have grown , we have learned that even broken, we can be put back together ,we are just different now and view our world in a new way, this feeling gives us hope!!
We awake on that plateau, we are given hope, courage, opportunity to move forward or remain where we are, which would be rather boring as life is the most precious gift of all, regardless of what paths we chose, Life in itself is meant to be lived, your given the chance to fail in order to truly live, to see beyond the twists and turns, to walk into the unknown with your head held high, to know who you are, to always be proud of yourself, to pick yourself up and dust yourself off. To plant seeds of wisdom, knowledge, love, happiness, sadness, successes, failures, kindness, compassion, flaws, in your sacred garden, as a reminder of your life!! Hold this sacred Key to your Sacred Garden and unlock who you are, do not hide among the thorns, but blossom and grow among the stars, it's okay to fall, remember that mountain we defeated earlier? Well he will always be there waiting for you to defeat him again and again.

And this my friends is but a small glimpse into my mind based on recent events in my life that had me contemplating how many times I have defeated that mountain alone and how many more times I will do it again, and how each time I grow stronger and wiser.

Thank you for staying here and reading the story that inspired this design, a huge thank you to Jesse James Free Bead Program for allowing artists to create and tell stories.
PART 5

First I wanted to apologize for the lateness of this blog post. It's been a whirlwind of happenings here at home. I have a daughter who is a competitive Irish Dancer who was out for 2 weeks due to a pulled groin muscle, my oldest daughter getting ready to graduate 8th grade, a wedding to dress a family of 5 for, I also had to finish three design challenge pieces, a secret project, three Irish dance events and well you get the point I've been crazy busy, also its been dreary , rainy weather here and I've been unable to take photos.

I was also waiting on a package to arrive. And this fifth segment wasn't easy as I wanted to challenge you all by giving you some different things to chose from that are sort of off the normal path which as many if you know is where my best thinking comes from... I'm always outside the box in thought and wanted to give you things to really consider....

So without further adoo... your winning vote for Texture was.....

I always dabbled in jewelry making. As a teenager I'd sit and play with wire and create these off the wall pendants to wear. I didn't have fancy tools, I didn't know any particular technique and how too's, I just made what I saw in my head. I had always loved wire then and still do now. It also scared me lol yes can you believe it?? I was scared!!! Of wire!! Whodathunkit!!!! It's true though, I didn't know there were different gauges, I didn't know there were tools and techniques to use, I just knew I HAD to use it. Oh yeah I'd add little seed beads for some color. One piece in particular always stood out it was a peace sign with bright green and blue beads lol . I have no idea what ever happened to it however. Years went by and life happened... I went to school to become a medical assistant while also battling what is now called fibromyalgia. Then I was called an enigma and was basically a guinea pig for all sorts of not so fun tests and medications. I was used in medical studies as I was 16 at the time and woke up one morning and couldn't walk, my legs were useless, my pain unbearable. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't going to stop me from living life either.. After I graduated High school, went to medical assistant school, graduated and went on to begin my career as an Ophthalmic Technician. Oh what an incredible many years of my life did I spent as an Ophthalmic Tech. I worked with the most amazing people, doctors, hospitals, etc. Then I got pregnant, got married, then had another baby and that's when things went into a downward spiral, you see the Fibro never left but it did cause more issues, my health started to deteriorate , my body was in constant pain to the point where I now only feel the pain when it is too late to do anything, when its in its peak of pain and all i can do is ride it out. My second c-section was scheduled my daughter will be 12 tomorrow!! She was worth any and all of the pain i had to endure. After that c-section I had bad spasms, they thought I had an early onset of Parkinsons Disease... I was 24 at the time.. So imagine my horror that here I was a new wife , a young mother, and I would have this life changing disease. Scary right!!! I was not able to work because no one would hire me for all the restrictions I had. The first year of my second daughter's life I was barely able to hold her because I would shake really bad at any given time, no medications helped, and the one that did sort of help made me feel like I was in a coma and who could take care of a baby feeling like that? So after many more attempts to see what could be done, what type of help there was, I was put on a regimen of different medications, BTW none of them helped, and I didn't want to become addicted to medications. So I refused to take anymore. I deal with it now by forging thru the pain, with Tylenol and Motrin if needed. The biggest issue is I'm soon to be 38 .. as in like 3 weeks :) I don't pay attention to the triggers that begin a Fibro flare up. I can only say it feels like your body is on fire from the inside out and that the pain travels and can be a dull pain or an extremely painful type of pain... you just really never know.

I had my son in 2009!! I was at that point a stay at home mom, which I'm extremely grateful for and saddened by at the same time, does that make sense? My kids are my life, they are only children for so long before they too become adults and so I cherished the time I was given with them, and yet I felt a sense of loss that I was not able to work and help support my family. I felt lost in many ways, as if a part of me was missing. I became depressed though you'd never know it, depression can hit you in many ways, I was always good at making others see that I was happy and go lucky because I truly was, It's hard to even explain how you can be very happy and content and also lost and missing at the same time, but I'm living proof that it does indeed happen!!

My husband was , still is, and always will be a hard worker. However I still wanted to be able to help financially in some way. One day Liam (my son) took a walk to the local second hand store, on a gorgeous sunny spring day, I'll never forget that day and his laughter, the birds whistling, the warmth of the sun on our faces, the pink leaves on the ground from the Cherry Blossom trees, the noise of the city traffic, the joy my son had just from exploring the outdoors. I felt energized, I felt happier that day than I had in so long, It was because I felt a change coming, oh yea I felt it bone deep, I felt inspired, I felt that my life would change and yet I had no idea why... I just soaked in the feeling I had. I figured whatever was to come would be a great thing!!!

Let's fast forward a wee bit here.......
A few days later my Husband took me to A.C. Moore where I picked up some beading string, some acrylic beads, some clasps, jump rings, and crimp beads.... I think I may have even grabbed a kit thing that had a little of each in it. I went home and looked on Youtube for how to use this stuff. Figured I would make myself a necklace or a few earrings and bracelets. I learned how to string beads, and use crimp beads and clasps etc.... I remember that feeling of being totally happy like that was the moment that started my journey. After a few weeks, yes a few weeks I decided to see if anyone would want to buy some of these amazing creations .... my family did for sure, they were very supportive, a few friends did to and I thought that was amazing too. I then got a call for a custom order, three strands, all Swarovski crystals , it was to be a mothers birthstone bracelet.... It was gorgeous, blingy, and had shiny sterling silver!!! I was so proud of myself!!

That my friends was the beginning of this wonderful, magical, amazing journey. I myself have grown as an artist and a person so so so much. I have met and continue to meet the most amazing people, I have become a part of the most amazing community of artists. I am thankful to so many for pushing me to do better, for challenging me, for lifting me up, for holding me together, for inspiring me, for teaching me, for showing me, for helping me grow not only as an artist but as a person in life, for opening my eyes to a much bigger more colorful world, for believing in me, for standing by my side even when I though my world had crumbled, for giving me the most amazing opportunities, for not shunning my weirdness, for being exactly who you are and accepting me as I am. THANK YOU!!! Each and every one of you have touched my life in some way whether big or small.

I did take a break a few months back, I wasn't sure Id ever come back, and I knew it would hurt like hell to leave but It was a personal decision and the best decision I ever made . I had much time to reflect on myself, my abilities, this gift I was given. That's exactly what I have is a gift. A unique gift. I could never put it behind me, I knew in my heart I belonged here, I knew I could never not create jewelry. I knew another change was coming however i felt it deep in my bones, and I am but a vessel being guided to where I am supposed to be for reasons I have yet to learn, I can most definitely say I am in a very very good place right now, there are many amazingly awesome great things happening to me at this moment that my soul is totally and completely joyous.

People ask me all the time... why do you make jewelry? There are many ways I could answer that, but I'll stick to the one I say and feel the absolute most and that is because I love to tell a story with jewelry, I love to see the emotions on a customers face when they make a connection to a design that I poured my heart and soul into, that my friends is what its all about. Ahh I have chill bumps as I wrote that... It's absolutely true however, I'm able to creatively tell a story using my gift, and in turn I get to see the emotional impact is has on the person meant to have it, that in itself is the most rewarding part of what I do. Its the biggest reason I continue to create, and the one thing that will always feed my soul.

I am but one of so very many artists , so the next time your at a fair, or a craft fair, or want a great piece of jewelry please consider handmade because a machine cant make you feel that way!!!

Thanks for reading this long blog, I'm not sure why I was compelled to write this today but it hit me out of no where that it needed to be said, and so I hope whomever it was meant for sees it and for whatever reasons the universe thinks you needed to know my heart and my story I truly hope it impacts you the way it is meant to.
I thank all of you who are joining in and voting. It truly is fun to see you all really looking over the choices and asking questions when needed. I loved all of the color palette choices.

And your winner is.........

Pinks, blues, and purples...... !!!!! well done everyone... this color palette will indeed be a challenge for me, while i love all color and have used these colors I never put these colors together... so this should be quite interesting......

PART 4

Okay so now that we have :

1. Chosen the direction of the blanks
2. Chosen where the holes will be
3. Chosen an amazing color pallette

We now move into....

TEXTURE

There are so many things that can be used for texture... for example..
a Ball Pien Hammer, nail heads, metal stamps, scribes, and so many more... so here are your next round of choices to vote for :)

#1 No Texture

#2 Dimpling ( a process of hammering using the ball side of a ball Pien hammer that is textured) (photo was found on a google search and is not my work and I'm unable to credit the artist)

#3 Using a Nail head ( this process would use a contractor nail and the nail head would be hit on its side to create texture)

#4 Using a Scribe tool (this tool has a pointed end and create deep small hole impressions or a scratch texture

I am a huge David Bowie fan. His passing literally broke my heart... I like so many other cried for the loss of such an incredible man, artist, actor, a star born , he wasn't just a legend he is legendary. His parting of this world left a huge void, I swear I felt the world weep.

David Bowie made such a profound impact on my life and the lives of so many. He taught the world to embrace our differences, to love who we are, to never be afraid to shine like the unique star that we were born to be.

His music, his lyrics, his riffs, his tremendous talent will always live on!!!

I can't say how much this blog hop means to me personally. I knew right away what I wanted to do, I visualized what David Bowie meant to me, when he truly made an impact on my life, and when he left this world to take his place amongst the stars.

I used translucent polymer clay and created an abstract pendant with two sides of David Bowie... Ziggy Stardust on the left of course.... I used acrylic paints and handpainted my design. I can not for the life of me draw let alone capture the true essence of David Bowie, so I summoned my inner ziggy stardust along with my inner Picasso and we'll the results are below.
This was indeed a challenge because I've only very recently began playing with polymer clay in jewelry design, I'm still learning so much, and this was the perfect opportunity to push myself, and I'm so so freaking happy with the results and if David Bowie is looking down from his star I would hope that he would love it just as much I do!!!

Please do visit the other amazing artists who have created an amazing design as a tribute to David Bowie you can go to
Welcome! !!!

A few months back I joined up for a blog hop called "Superstitions" hosted by the incredibly talented Tammy Adams of Paisley Lizard. Tammy created 13 lucky black cat polymer clay beads to go to the first 13 lucky designers to sign up. I was one of the lucky 13!!

Our challenge was not only to create using the black cat bead but to also design something based on any "Superstitions" world wide and within any myth or legend...

So I've researched quite a few "SUPERSTITIONS" that were spoken about during my childhood and decided on using two of those memories as my challenge pieces.

You see my home growing up you could say was multi religious my mom is Christian, and while we always attended church and learned of god, my sister, brother and I found our own spiritual path with the guidance of our mom. As we were raised to always be who we are and take comfort in finding something to believe in as long as we believed it whole heartedly and it didn't harm ourselves or anyone else. This in turn led to a Christian brother who also follows the ways of the Native American Indians. My sister and I followed the pagan path. We are both Wiccan but also both have our own spiritual journey. I don't tend to speak alot about my beliefs and it's most definitely not because I'm ashamed nor afraid. I am very comfortable with who I am and what I believe in. It's been a long traveled road with many questions and lessons along the way. I don't often speak about it because to be quite frank there is alot of ignorance and lack of knowledge, and so while I do my best to answer questions and assure people that I am not a devil worshipper, or a crazed lunatic , and that in fact it's one of the most peaceful religions in the world and as old as time itself , I reserve my energies with such discussions with people who respect me and my chosen path as I respect them and theirs.

So this challenge really opened some doors for me and I've even amazed myself. Most Wiccans don't believe in superstitions as we mainly believe each instance that occurs is fate. 13 happens to be a very powerful and magical number and black cats extremely lucky creatures , it's also true that Wiccans refer to themselves as witches because of the way we "pray" which is more like a ritual to our goddess and our god. And we all know that most witches are associated with a "familiar" or "spirit animal" and some call them "totems" and mostly those familiars are cats and owls. Many others also such as the bear, the wolf, the otter, and many types of birds etc.

Yes bare with me here lol...

So I wasn't quite sure how to create with my adorable black cat pendant, he has sat with me on my bead board while I created for countless hours for shows, and what not. And still my creative mind could not quite figure him out yes it is a "he" and his name is Dax!! However last night Dax said he was ready to be made, and my muse agreed it was time. And so Dax was created using a lamp work bead, a Swarovski crystal, larvikite beads, natural black spotted feldspar, opalite, and black obsidian. I used a very gorgeous deep reddish brown 20 gauge dyed copper wire. So while Dax didn't become one of my more complex statement pieces he became exactly what he was meant to be.

Next I chose a Rowan Tree, thru out history and time, lands , and countries trees have been a source for many religious beliefs, they were used to carve wooden bowls for scrying, as well as figurines, crosses, wands, and a number of tools used in many cultures. The Rowan tree was sought after for its berries also. Many assumed the Rowan tree brought evil curses because it is said if you cut the Rowan tree you would be able to see into another dimension or into the underworld, so it began that people would burn and destroy these sacred trees out of fear. The Rowan in ancient Ireland and Scotland was revered rather than feared. It was known well for its aide in protection against evil, for its magical properties of wealth and knowlege. For this design I used a gorgeous lampwork pendant made by Julie Karnos, and coordinating lampwork beads by Kristin Louthan, I used copper wire made by me.

My final design sparked from my love of the moon. I myself have always been enamored of the moon. To me it is peaceful, a time when I can reflect, and seek guidance. However there are many "Superstitions" that surround the moon. One we all know quite well is "The Man In The Moon" because it appears there is a face on the moon. Or all the crazies come out during the full moon , also many babies are born during the full moon, many bad things also supposedly happen during a full moon, or the Blood Moon which is a harvest moon .... There were so many superstitions surrounding the moon that you would actually have to research them all or we would be here for a month lol. For this design which I call "MOON LOVE" I have paired a gorgeous polymer clay moon pendant and moon rock bead by the amazingly talented Staci Louise of Staci Louise Originals, a gorgeous lampwork bead by 2 Bead Sisters, lampwork beads by Cindy Bos, Czech fire polished beads, and I used antique copper wire to enhance the look. Now this piece has found a loving new home but she still likes to show off. The moon apparently is very sassy and demands she is a queen. She also likes to argue. She has an amazing shimmer which she loves to share :)

Now I wanted to add in a small story here....

Today while I was finishing a portion of the chain used for Dax , I had a knock at the door, I put the chain down, went to the door it was my postman with a package I took it thanked him and returned to my work table, and low and behold the chain was missing as in was on the bead board and then gone. I knew I had it, and started looking for it under stuff, in stuff, my clothes, shoes , retraced my steps from the table to the door about five times , I even looked outside and in the mailbox, I had to laugh I mean full out my ribs hurt and I had tears running kind of laughing, it is after all Friday the 13th!!!

Now obviously I found the chain low and behold it somehow managed to return back to my bead board.....so I've come to a conclusion I either we have a mischievous ghost in my home which truly wouldn't surprise me and yes I fully believe in ghosts or my cat who happens to be named Samhain which is a pagan holiday which falls on Halloween and is a tortoiseshell cat ,meaning black, orange and a cream color, is either very fresh today or very smart and now likes to play tricks...

They chose one featured designer who gets to play with the components first this month that featured designer was Shaia Williams.

I entered the contest and as only four designers got chosen I really didn't think I'd get picked but amazingly enough I did. I recieved my kit a few days later. And was blown away completely by what was inside my kit. Me and three other artists received the same components and had to create using them. We were allowed to create one or several designs and we were allowed to incorporate other pieces.

I have enjoyed seeing all of the chosen designers pieces.

I must say that the contributors components were amazing.
First I want to thank Okawa African Beads for the gorgeous and brightly colored ceramic beads, and Dobzie Wood by Burl Girl for the amazingly gorgeous wood pendant it was an absolute pleasure to work with and a stunning piece. A special thank you to Kari Asbury friend and fellow artist for the gorgeous purple sari silk and roll chain, they added such an amazing texture to the design. Thank you also for alowing us this opportunity to use these components in a design, it truly was an honor.

So for my design I really wanted to keep the wood pendant the main focal, it was a perfect focal to set off the amazingly bright colors of the ceramic beads, I added lampwork beads by Kristin Louthan, Cindy Bos, and an uknnown artist. I used a gorgeous glass teal donut, antique copper wire and copper wire. I really love this design and immediately it's name was Woodland Magic. It's a perfect length and it's very lightweight. A bold colored statement that reflects me as an artist :)
I hope you have enjoyed this blog, please visit Artisan Component Marketplace group on Facebook and tell them The Beadwench sent ya ;)

(Part 1)
Ahh so you've found the awesome world of facebook auctions, and shows huh!! I can imagine you probably feel a wee bit intimidated and overwhelmed!! It's normal I think we have all been there.

I'll never forget my first listing either. I mucked it up atleast 20 times before I felt good enough to hit the "Post" button.

All groups do have files that explain what a listing should include and you can find examples on the wall but I do agree it can still be rather intimidating.

So I've been doing auctions online and shows with my jewelry for quite sometime now and I can say after you get over that initial fear, it's all good from there on out. You could list in your sleep and you'd be fine :)

So just in case I'm going to explain how the auctions work and later I'll talk about online spotlight and trunk shows....

The Basics:

Auctions: Online auction groups are for listing a few items at a time only. Please always read the groups rules which can be found either where it says "view pinned post" or in their "files " section. You always want to read through and agree to the rules so the admins know you have read them. The rules, times, and number of listings allowed will vary group to group so that's why it's important to read each groups rules. I actually have a notebook that I have written down all the groups I frequent, the number of items I'm allowed to list, and any special instructions I may need to know, along with the groups url (link).

Now you will see many weird abbreviated words such as SB, BIN, BI , and PM. Three of which a dollar amount will follow. One will not.

SB: means it's the "starting bid" it's the lowest price the artists will accept for that item

BI: bid increments meaning if Sally bid the sb of $10 , Joe can then bid $11 and Edna can then bid $11.50, however most bid increments are $1.00 increases. And most sellers like myself won't even use a bid increment. The seller will determine what the BI is.

BIN: means "Buy it now" that is the price the seller wants if you want to forgo from playing the bidding game. Sometimes we come across an item we must have right then and bin it right away so we don't take a chance of losing it.

PM: means "private message" This is how you communicate with a buyer when the auction ends. (More on this will be in blog part 2 coming later this week )

Now almost atleast 20 times a day someone asks what an "anti-snipe" rule is, basically if someone is holding the high bid and Sally comes in to swoop Edna's bid away at the last second then she is SOL cause the seller is allowing Edna five more minutes to respond and re bid. Now for me personally I hate the anti-snipe rule I think it's stupid. The fun of bidding gets taken away If Sally wins then good for her. However there is a sound reasoning behind it and it's usually a rule for higher end items . You will never see me use it however I like the fun and adrenaline rush bidding brings to the game. Most times I won't bid on items with that rule either.

Photos: So you are allowed one clear bright photo in your main listing and usually allowed 2-3 more to be added in the comments section (tips for these to follow in blog 2 as well)

Description: This is where you add any information you want your potential buyer to know. Always include what the materials are that your design has. Metals, beads, whatever it is. The length or size, color, etc. If your design was inspired by something do tell about it. You want to draw people in, you want to make them want to own your design.

Shipping: Everyone ships differently. So whatever your shipping details are add that in.

Auction start/end time: all groups allow for different lengths of times your allowed to list an item. I generally only post for 24 hours. But please always put you auction end date and time. Use your time zone , as buyers will figure out the timing in their own zones.

Paypal: This is how you will invoice your buyer when the auction ends either from a BIN or at the auction end time. (More on this in blog 2)

So these are the basics for an auction style listing. I will cover more details and tips in the next blog so be sure to follow up. Auctions should be fun and the environment of the group should make you feel comfortable. Will you sell your item right off the bat? Well I don't know depends on who your item is making a connection with. So don't feel discouraged.

SPOTLIGHTS & TRUNK SHOWS

Yessss this is where I see people running for their life. Afraid to even take the leap. Shows do really seem intimidating but......there is always a but right??

Spotlights and Trunk shows can be very invigorating, you learn so much about yourself, you meet some of the most amazing people including fellow artists. We as a community come togeher to help and show support.

A spotlight show usually runs only 24 hours and some groups will have 1-3 artists spotlighting together. It's a magnificent way to get on that sound box and share with the world the beautiful creations you offer. Will they always be successful?... no. . no they wont, some shows you'll get many likes and compliments and no sales, however this isn't to be looked at as a bad thing, not meant to discourage you, it doesn't mean people don't like your items. Even the most seasoned artist doesn't always have a productive show and guess what??? That is perfectly fine. It just means you'll try again and again. In the mean time people are getting to know you, they are getting to know your work, your style, your passion. Sometimes just letting go and putting yourself out there has the most amazing benefits. It's also about developing an online presence. My advice is to make something that shows who you are as an artist, what inspires you, stand out from the others, find your niche. Never be afraid to show the world who you are.

Trunk Shows usually run 24-48 hours and feature only 1 artist, again this is your time to shine, this is your time to make people aware of who you are, to show them what you offer.

Both types usually require that you list a minimum of 10 items. This shouldn't scare you off. You can do ten items in no time. Earrings are always great, but also offer a necklace and a bracelet. I know an artist who only makes earrings , she has developed a large following and she sells out in every show she does...why??? Because she has found her niche..
She has stepped up to the plate and hit that ball out of the park,,, she has made her mark among the community.

Shows in any form are always so much fun. If your still unsure of yourself, please follow a few shows, your always welcome to stop by any of my shows, I do have a "stalker fan club" of artists who have been following me to see how I work my magic which is totally humbling because they are artists I greatly admire, I've shown them the tools to a great show and one has already had such amazing success in her first two shows thus far... I do believe I created a monster :p

So these are the basics on auctions, shows, and listings.

Please don't ever be afraid to put yourself out there. Many of us aren't as BAM in your face ( I am because it's how im wired) but many are very shy and that's okay. This is all online and we don't make judgements ! you as an artist alone speak for yourself. Never second guess your work , art doesn't need to be perfect, find yourself and create from within. There are so many amazingly wonderful artists out there.
When I first came into the scene I was scared my designs wouldn't be good enough that even being in the same groups as others I would fail miserably.

But one thing I had that I want you to always have is FAITH!! Yep faith!! Have faith in yourself and faith in your craft. Please don't compare your work to anyone else's that alone will give you the wrong impression. Rather be proud of what you create, it's your heart and soul that made it, we all offer something different and unique, it's why it's handmade!!!

So my fellow artists I leave you now to ponder wether your going to take the leap. If your unsure or your still a wee bit afraid come and find me and I will help guide you along the way.

I hope this blog part 1 has been helpful in explaining the basics. Please stay tuned for blog 2 later this week where I will offer more tips and advice on running a successful show. As well as tips for writing an awesome auction style listing!!!

Until next time....

The Beadwenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01085589897991021030noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1993725539363163839.post-65690821625371452622015-09-16T04:59:00.001-07:002015-09-16T05:28:23.876-07:00Love, Support, and Awesomeness
I don't know about you, yes you the beautiful soul reading this right now!!

This week thus far has been amazing. I've seen such an outpouring of love and support. First let's start with the wonderful Melinda Orr, a talented well known artist among the jewelry community (she also makes artisan components that will knock your socks off), you see her brother Mark was recently diagnosed with cancer. And in order to help his family with the offset of medical bills, and whatnot she started an event where she was going to post her jewelry and such for sale in order to raise funds.
Well I think she wasn't expecting what happened next and this my friends is the true meaning of love and support. You see love isn't just given to those we have known thru out our lives such as parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family and friends. .. oh no my dear ones it goes even above and beyond that. You see Melinda recieved an overwhelming and beautiful gift of this love and support for her brother from mostly strangers. Now I say strangers in the sense that though many of us in the jewelry community are friends ,many of us have never met in person (omg I think the world would pause the moment we all got together at one time in real life) but I can tell you the amazing amount of love that I witnessed during this event. Everyone, even artists such as myself that she doesn't know very well ,have donated items to auction off, have shared, bid, purchased, and well it was amazing I don't think anything was left.
So if you were a part of that in any way from the bottom of my heart thank you. On behalf of Melinda and her brother thank you!!

Oh wait I'm not done....

I myself have recently been the recipient of love and support, not for such reasons as above. But in a different sense. Many of you reading this know I schedule alot of trunk shows, I frequently list my goodies in various auction groups, I'm in alot of jewelry chat rooms. I've been testing some theories on how to engage people during shows, how to keep them interested, and getting to know them as well as them getting to know me. I've tried many different things the last few months.

I've been keeping a list and checking things off, making notes. And out of the blue a few very well respected artisans whom I admire greatly (and who I have recently been told are stalking my auctions in a very good way not in a creeper way) have messaged me with some amazing feedback and totally noted what I was doing that was making a difference, things even that they wanted to implement into their shows. I was totally thrown off guard in a good way. See although I've been creating jewelry for quite sometime I'm still the newbie among the community lol They are the artisans who have opened my eyes and the doors to explore so many new things. Their talents are a magnificent beauty in this world. And their love and support have totally pulled at my heart strings.

In addition to the amazingly incredible feedback , I also was announced the winner of the BNB challenge, Pachyderms on Parade hosted by the amazingly talented Kelly Hosford Patterson of Pyxeestix Traveling Sideshow. You can read her blog at
Travelingsideshow.blogspot.com to see what inspired her to chose this theme.

This morning I woke up to the sweetest post on Lampwork Bead Addicts Galleria. An amazing group of artists that bring you such talented and creative jewelry. As well as lampwork beads. Normally each day or so one of the awesome admins will put a collage of goodies that are on the page and share it, almost always they speak about inspiration, and the color pallets used. This morning however one of the admins, whom I don't know very well displayed all four of my designs by themselves with the sweetest words about my wirework. And man that started my morning on the brightside. Thank you so much for that! !!

You see I'm not sure what I have done recently ,call it good karma, call it life, call it luck, call it what you will, but this week it chose me. And I can't begin to even explain how it makes me feel inside, it's as if someone just handed me the most amazing gift in the world, the same gift in a sense that Melinda recieved. An outpouring of love and support.

Many get tired of my constant chatter on a daily basis, but it's because most people think us artists a wee bit insane and well we are the entire lot of us are a bit insane!! However being part of such a large community of people changes your life, touches your soul, pushes you to grow, picks you up when you fall, sprinkles you in glitter when you need it, they become such an amazingly large part of your life. It's like you found your tribe, your lost family, your squad, your cheerleaders etc.

So I wanted you all to know how much it's appreciated. How much that love and support means, and to always remember I have that same love for all of you!!!!

This week has been a part of my journey that I shall always remeber, that of I could bottle up the love and wear it I would!!!

This has been a novel of a blog post. So once again THANK YOU not only to the artisan community at large but to all of you, this is but one of the many many many reasons I am in love with what I do. It's what drives that passion to create!!
So as always my friends go forth and color the world!!!!
Have an amazing day my friends!!!!!!

Here is my journey into my first ever BNB challenge:

The months from May - September can be fairly slow in sales and activity in the art community. As its the season of graduations, vacations, hot days, beach visits, cold drinks with friends, and wrapping up at the beginning of the school season once again. I had been missing from the art community for a few months (you can read about that in a previous post). So I decided to take this time to learn new things, attempt mediums I never tried before, and to join in on more jewelry challenges. We don't usually win a prize other than we get to pick the theme for the next challenge. Which is alot of fun and requires some research.

I'm always up for a challenge and so when I saw friend and fellow artist Kelly Hosford Patterson of Pyxeestix designs (an artist that inspires me thru her use of textures, fabric, and style) I knew I wanted to jump in for this adventure.

I also knew no matter the theme that I wanted to challenge myself as an artist.
The theme she chose for this BNB challenge was "Pachyderms on Parade ". We were given these amazingly stunning, gorgeous inspirational photos to spark our creativity.

And so HANO the elephant was born again. Inspired by the real life Hanno the white elephant circa 1510. For more information on the history and life of Hanno please visit
Http://maddy06.blogspot.com/2013/11/a-pope-and-elephant.html?m=1

I've found many research sites and found that to be the most informative.

The journey from there just so happened two days prior to Beadfest 2015 located here in Oaks Pa. I knew I had wanted to use different materials. And I didn't really have an idea in mind other than I wanted an elephant of some sort. I'm one of those that firmly believes the right thing will find you. And off to beadfest we went. You can read about my beadfest adventures in my previous blog post.

Fast forward :::: Staci from Staci Louise Originals a true master in polymer clay creations, was a vendor at Beadfest and as I went to say Hello... BAM!!!!! What yells HEYYYY I'M HERE!!! But Hano himself!! Hano is a polymer clay creation made by Staci, and thus Hano was reborn. From that moment he yelled out to me we were on a mission. We wanted bright colors to reflect the beautiful fabrics used in the photos and to reflect the gorgeous paint colors. And low n behold two vendors past Staci, we found Marsha Neal Studios, the first thing that popped out at me was the brightly colored silk ribbon. So Hano and I chose a bright orange and a cadet blue, we also decided to try a ceramic disc.

Now keep in mind I have never worked with polymer clay, I have never wire wrapped a ceramic disc, and my first attempt at silk I failed miserably. Ahhh but I never give up.
We also added a brass patina elephant stamping, ceramic beads by Gaea Canody, and two brightly colored yellow lampwork beads. And so Hano and I sat down and after many many different ways to play with items and figure out where to put them we finally agreed (Hano didn't want his butt to look big) on the final design.

You can see the photos below for the journey and the final design.
The Beadwenchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01085589897991021030noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1993725539363163839.post-74642230636348667192015-08-26T15:28:00.001-07:002015-08-27T06:37:16.764-07:00Ahhh Beadfest...friends,bead peeps, and amazing goodies
So I know many of you asked about my beadfest experience. And we'll I was totally exhausted just from being there all day Sunday and didn't post. Well here it is... **pictures of the day will be at the bottom because I have no clue how to arrange them in order on my blog from my phone haha**

So Saturday night I packed my beadfest bag as well as the snacks and drinks Caitlyn and I would need (*they got left in the car and all we used was one water bottle haha so much for packing*)

Sunday morning we woke up at 7 am, got ready , left home at 8:40am. With two stops on the way we arrived at beadfest at 9:27am. The doors were open so we went and paid our admission fees (cait was free..all kids under 12 are). I had a huge bag of beads, findings, and vintage stuff to donate to the Beat It Beads foundation so we headed over to their table to drop off our load and ended up chatting with the beautiful woman who runs the program. If your interested in finding out more about their organization please like their Facebook page Beaditbeads. Tell them the Beadwench sent ya!!

Then we were on our way. Caitlyn has never been to Beadfest with me and she was totally in awe of everything and really enjoyed it. Our first stop was 2 Bead Sisters, these ladies are a bucket of fun, they remembered me from last year, their lampwork is absolutely incredible and only available for sale at shows/events. I got a few goodies here that are being used in my Superstitions blog hop.

We then headed over towards Artisan Alley where I wanted to say hello to a few artist peeps, first stop was Staci of www.stacilouiseoriginals.com she is an amazing polymer clay artist, she teaches classes at Beadfest, she has been featured in many jewelry magazines, and won first place at Beadfest for her amazing necklace. It was pretty busy so I wasn't able to get a photo with Staci but I was able to snag one of her awesome polymer clay creations to use in my Pachyderms on Parade challenge :)

As we made our way down Artisans Alley I stopped at Marsha Neal Studios display because her silk caught my eye, Marsha I had never met before but recognized her name right away, she has amazing ceramic pieces, kits, and silk of course I snagged some gorgeous silks and a ceramic to also use in my Pachyderms on Parade challenge. Marsha is a joyful spirit and is like sitting down with one of your besties we had a great convo and I think she magically lent me some of her amazing energy she even struck a rock star pose for the camera just for this blog :)

After we left Marsha's booth we drooled over Diane Hawkyes booth, need I say more!!!!!. I had a delivery to make to the fantastic Michelle McCarthy of Firefly Design Studio, she traded me earrings she won in my trunk show for credit at her table, which is awesome I love trades. So I picked up some amazing goodies for the Danse Macabre Blog Hop I'm doing :)

As Michelle and I said our goodbyes , my very good friend and fellow artist Colleen Haurin of Beadworks by Colleen appeared with her daughter Michalene, to hang with Cait and I for the day. The four of us had many many laughs and epic adventures ;)

We stopped at several booths and made several purchases. My favorite gemstone vendor this year was The Perfect Gem!!!! The quality of their gems are outstanding.

As we made our way among the hundreds of rows Kim Lyons fellow artist and SRAJD member spotted me apparently she had to threaten to break Michelle's display to track me down by clothing and tattoo description. ...haha kidding she asked to point her my way and I wasn't far. I have been chatting with Kim online for about a year as we frequent the same groups she also doesn't live far from me. So I got to meet and hang out with some amazing people at Beadfest. I got lots of goodies. I made a list and actually stuck to it. I didn't get a few things on my list because well I had a budget and I broke it in half literally because I splurged on a few things ...

By the end of the day I was worn out and in pain (my plantar facitis issues kicked in overdrive).

However for those of you wondering if Beadfest is worth the time, travel, lodging, and money..... my answer is absolutely yessss... I am fortunate to live 45 minutes away and don't need lodging. But it's worth it. If you have thought about coming def come.. you won't regret it. The classes are amazing and worth every penny. There are classes to suit every budget. They have added 45 minute classes for $26.00 and small $2.00 mini make n takes as well.

There is so much to see and do. But the energy, atmosphere, amazing vendors and fellow artists are well worth the trip.

I hope you've enjoyed my blog. Hope to see you there. Feel free to visit the artisans I mentioned tell them the BEADWENCH sent ya or Betony lol

This challenge is the 18th challenge but, a first for me!!! The theme for this challenge is:

Pachyderms On Parade

Our inspiration for this challenge. I love Elephants in general and to see them dressed up and painted was absolutely incredible. Such vibrant colors used to create a unique look for each pachyderm, as well as the exotic And beautiful vibrancy in the fabric coloring, the entire look is just simply fascinating. I knew right away I wanted to challenge myself as an artist and chose mediums I haven't really worked with before. So with that thought in mind I knew I wanted some bright fabrics, and a stand out focal with some texture. I did pick up some AMAZING items to work with. I have an idea in my head so let's hope it comes to life!!!

The reveal for this Challenge is September 5th 2015 right here on my blog. I'll also keep you posted on the other artists blog info so you can leisurely see what each of us has interpreted for this theme. I absolutely love seei ng jewelry be pushed to its limits and brought to life.

I am as I write this looking over the materials I gathered to use and I'm am so excited. This is all new material for me as I'm used to working with wire, gemstones, and lampwork.

Here is is a "teaser" photo and some of the amazing photos we used for inspiration.

Let's see who can guess what type of materials I'll be using :)
